When conducting a new tasting, our panel of editors taste blind, meaning each cigar is stripped of its original band and assigned a numeric code for the rating process. Nicaragua and Cuba continued to impress the tasting panel, as cigars from either country took the top spot in every category. Our April tasting comprised reviews from six size categories: Churchill, corona gorda, figurado, miscellaneous, robusto and grande. Three of those cigars earned scores of 94 points, near-classic on our 100-point scale. I can’t tell you how disappointed I was in the managers decision not to provide a discount this time. He wouldn’t budge so I regrettably and reluctantly paid full price for the cigars and left the store. The manager came up with some excuse that corporate no longer authorizes discounts and that his hands are tied. His manager came over and I told him that every time I come in, he approves a discount because I spend a good deal of money at this store each time I shop. Once again, I asked about It and the clerk said he would have to get his manager to approve it. Today I spent over $305 on cigars and the clerk did not apply any discount nor did he offer it to me. They do a dog and pony show where the clerk calls the manager over and they make a big deal out of it. Corona cigar company has, on most occasions, offered a 10% discount on my total bill, but it's always been a "process" to get the manager to honor the discount. I shop there every couple of months to restock my humidor. I frequently shop at corona cigar company in Heathrow and my average spend for cigars is about $250 per visit.
